Wax Bowls

wax bowls

Wax Bowls on cover of HGTV magazineThis project for HGTV Ideas magazine was the inspiration for the wax bowls and floating candles I now make and sell. I just can’t keep my hands out of that wonderful warm wax! It feels fabulous, is great to work with, and the colors are irresistable.

During the design process it took me several tries and a couple dozen bowls thrown back in the pot for remelting before I finally had a finished product that was beautiful and didn’t fall apart. (Most fell apart due to my impatience; I tried unmolding them before they were fully cool.) When I was confident that this was actually a do-able project, I wrote the step-by-step directions.

Wax bowls aren’t just for floating candles. Fill them with fruit, pinecones or seashells, holiday ornaments - you name it! The one on my desk even looks pretty filled with paper recycling scraps.

wax heart and leavesPartially hardened wax can be molded into little hearts, balls and other shapes, or delicately imprinted with a leaf from your garden.

This craft project was one of several I was fortunate to have featured on the cover of HGTV Ideas magazine. The original print version of the project is just gorgeous, due to the exacting work photographer Charlie Brooks and the staff of HGTV Ideas magazine.
